Hi everybody,
It is that time of year, Sledge Hockey of Eastern Ontario or SHEO is looking for nominations for the executive board for 2009/2010 sledge hockey season. Last year’s executive consisted of: Serge Lavoie (President), Daniel Hynes (Vice President of Finance), Gordon Powell (Vice President, Intermediate Program), Laura Domenicucci (Vice President Junior Program), Angelo Gavillucci (House League Commissioner), Connie Weston (Secretary), Mike Kadoura (Vice President of Marketing), Doug O’Keefe (Past President). Thanks to the executives and other volunteers for their contributions during the last season.
Serge, Daniel, Gord, Laura, Angelo, and Connie have all ready agreed to stay on for another season. SHEO therefore can expect at least one vacancy for Vice President (VP) of Marketing.
In accordance with SHEO’s charter, we need to elect a new board of directors for the upcoming sledge hockey season. Therefore, please let us know who you would like to volunteer, nominate and/or second a registered parent/player for any of the positions by completing the nomination form below and emailing it to panther16@rogers.com no later than Saturday, August 29 at 11:59 PM.

A list of candidates nominated will be sent to members on August 30th to complete voting by email up until Sunday, September 6, 8:00 PM, and in person during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on Saturday, September 12th, 2009 at 01:00 PM at the Ottawa District Hockey Association (ODHA) Offices located at 1247 Kilborn Place, Suite D 300, Ottawa.
Registration forms, for the 2009/2010 season, will be available at the AGM to allow new members to participate in the election, and for returning players who are ready to complete the paper work in anticipation of practices and games that will start on September 18th and 20th.

C'est le temps pour l’association de hockey sur luge de l’est Ontarien ou HLEO de rechercher des nominations pour le conseil exécutif pour la saison 2009-2010 de hockey sur luge. L’exécutif de l'année dernière était composé de: Serge Lavoie (président), Daniel Hynes (vice-président des finances), Gordon Powell (vice-président du Programme Intermédiaire), Laura Domenicucci (vice-président du Programme Junior), Angelo Gavillucci (commissaire de ligue de maison), Connie Weston (secrétaire), Mike Kadoura (vice-président du marketing), Doug O'Keefe (président passé). Merci à ces directeurs et autres volontaires pour leurs contributions pendant la dernière saison.
Serge, Daniel, Gord, Laura, Angelo, et Connie sont tous prêt de rester en poste pour une autre saison. SHEO peut donc s'attendre d’avoir au moins un poste vacant pour le vice-président (VP) du marketing. Selon la charte de SHEO, nous devons élire un nouveau conseil d'administration pour la prochaine saison d'hockey sur luge. Une liste de candidats nommés sera envoyée aux membres le 30 août pour accomplir le vote par courriel jusqu'au dimanche le 6 septembre a 8h00 P.M., et en personne au cours de l'assemblée générale annuelle (AGA) qui aura lieu samedi le 12 septembre 2009 à 01:00 P.M. aux bureaux de l'association d'hockey de zone d'Ottawa (ODHA) situés au 1247 de Kilborn, suite D 300, Ottawa.

2009/2010 Ontario ParaSport Winter Games
Please see email below (and the attached document) if you are interested in joining the East Region team (Ottawa, Kingston, Peterborough, Kawartha) to participate in the 2010 Ontario ParaSport Winter Games in Kingston, Ontario January 22-24, 2010. The tri-outs and games are being organized by OSHA. Individual SHEO players should submit their applications directly to Brad Blanchard (with a c.c. to sergel@sheo.ca).
To participate, here are the Player eligibility criteria:
- Players must be 16 years or older at the time of the OPWG.
- Players must be disabled in accordance with the OSHA and International ParaSport Committee guidelines (see attached).
- Players must be registered members in good standing with OSHA.
- Players must be residents of Ontario.
- Players must be Canadian citizens or landed immigrants
- Players cannot be a current member of the Canadian National Sledge Hockey Team.
- Minimum attendance: Players must attend the Talent Identification Camp (TIC) and at least half of the exhibition games to be eligible to participate on a regional team at the OWPG.
Naturally, I would appreciate if any future correspondance be sent to me about the OPWG from OSHA or from our SHEO players who may be interested to participate in the 2010 OPWG.

Almonte ON – August 12, 2007 Kent Huskins, a defenceman with the NHL champion Anaheim Ducks, and the three-foot, 35-lb. Stanley Cup visited with the Ottawa Valley Bandits sledge hockey team at the Civitan Hall in downtown Almonte. OVB Team manager Gordon Powell, a friend of the Huskins’ family, had arranged for the special visit with Kent.

July 2007: 3rd Annual RoughRiders Cup Invitational Tournament
Long Island NY – July 15, 2007 At the 3rd Annual RoughRiders Cup Invitational Tournament, L.I. Sled Hockey recaptured the RoughRiders Cup. Please see Scrapbook for highlights at http://www.lisledhockey.org/newweb/scrapbook1.htm.
May 2007: Inaugural O'Keefe Cup
Ottawa ON – May 6th, 2007 The 4th Annual Ottawa Invitational Sledge Hockey Tournament was named the O’Keefe Cup in honour of the association long-serving president. The tournament involved a total of 18 teams from Canada, the United States and Italy from May 3rd to May 6th at the Bell SensPlex and at the Ottawa University arena. All in all, all team members played and had a great time. The Long Island RoughRiders won the Inaugural O'Keefe Cup; for full results check out the Tournament page: http://www.sheo.ca/ocsship/07_invitational.htm. This event was particularly noteworthy since it included the First All Women's Sledge Hockey exhibition game played by teams representing the United States and Canada on May 5, 2007.
